Fishers Island Telephone is actively deploying High Speed Fiber Optic Cables across the island to bring reliable high-speed broadband to our subscribers.
The current system has a capacity of 25Mb per second using a legacy Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) network which utilizes aging copper connections. The Fiber has bandwidths up to 500Mb per second with low latency. As the demand for broadband increases exponentially the need for higher bandwidth is being demanded. The new technologies, streaming media, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) that are in place today at a subscriber’s residence require more sophisticated in-home networking to connect all of the devices in the home. These devices now are ‘phoning home’ to cloud servers that will be utilizing the internet to perform their specific application tasks.
Service has been actively deployed to the Oriental Ave and Montauk Ave area, Crescent Road to the Market, Fox Ave, Shingle Hill, and Equestrian, Ocean View, and Etrick general areas.
Fishers Island Telephone is prepared to schedule installations for the areas in green and blue on the map below. This includes the Fort area, Club to the Castle area, and the Peninsula Road to the Gate House area for installation between February and June 2025. The remaining areas in white are targeting the 4th quarter of 2025.
