Fishers Island residents are encouraged to sign up for Smart911 – a free service that provides emergency responders with critical information about you and your family when responding to a call.
Smart911 allows residents to create a safety profile for their household. When a resident makes an emergency call, the safety profile is automatically displayed to the 911 dispatcher. This allows the dispatcher to send the right response teams to the right location with more background information than before.
Residents can choose what details they would like to include, such as:
- Emergency contact information
- Medical information, including mental health
- Number of people and pets on the property
- Location data
- Two-way messaging from dispatchers to callers
All information is optional; the profiles can be updated or edited by the user at any time.
Smart911 is particularly helpful for calls made via a mobile device by providing dispatchers with home or work location information.
Create your safety profile at smart911.com or on the Smart911 App.

Your Safety Profile is Free, Private, and Secure.
Fishers Island Telephone, in conjunction with Suffolk County and the Southold Public Services Answering Point (PSAP), has successfully improved access to 911 emergency services. Making this state-of-the-art upgrade to the network has increased the number of available circuits from one (1) to twenty (20). We do not anticipate 20 simultaneous 911 calls but, we are now ready to accommodate more than one. The new solution was implemented in July 2023.
The local, on-island, police can be reached at 631-788-2600.
Thank you for your support of the Fishers Island Telephone Company.
